Since then, it has grown into a huge affair, complete with corporate partnerships and sponsors. However, Miami Beach Pride as we know it today began as a relatively small celebration in 2009. The first Pride March in South Florida was held in 1972 – just a few years after Stonewall – starting as a protest against anti-crossdressing laws in the county. Miami has been a haven for homosexuals and other members of the LGBTQ community for decades.
